One sweet Speedster and a super cool RF grace Mazda's Vegas stand.
The MX-5 is a real featherweight of a car, but some devoted Mazda engineers wanted to put it on an even bigger diet.
At last year’s SEMA show, Mazda debuted the MX-5 Speedster Concept, which was 150 pounds (68 kilograms) lighter than the stock car. And now we’ve got a new version of it, the Speedster Evolution, which sheds another 100 pounds (45 kg) – this thing weighs only 1,980 pounds (898 kg).
How did they get all of the mass out? Well, obviously there’s no roof or windshield, there’s carbon fibre everywhere including the door panels, the aero kit, and the bucket seats inside. We’ve also got a lighter batter, and lighter brakes all the way around. To top it off, this car gets the adjustable suspension, tires, and Rays wheels from the MX-5 Cup car.
In other words: It goes, just as well as it looks.
