For the right price, you could own this authentic Land Rover Defender 110 Tithonus military vehicle.
In Greek mythology, Tithonus was a Titan who was strong and unrelenting. It's only fitting that a handful of iconic Land Rover Defender 110's would share the same designation. These particular Landys were restored by the British government in 2008 for an extended stay in military service. Now mostly retired from military use, a number of examples have shown up for sale on the used market.
This one in particular is from 1986, and is up for grabs on eBay with a current bid of just $15,100 (approximately $20,000 CAD) per this writing. It has just 60,083 miles (96,694 kilometres) on the odometer, featuring its original 2.5-litre diesel engine, a five-speed manual transmission, and a right-hand drive setup. Mechanically, everything on the car is in working condition, including the clutch, brakes, and high and low gearing for the 4x4 system, which is a must for any serious off-road enthusiast.
Fully restored, the Rover received a fresh coat of semi-gloss military green paint and a new set of black cloth front seats and jump seats. The exterior wears a few minor add-ons like a heavy-duty winch, auxiliary lights, new diamond plating on the wing tops and the rear, and a canvas bikini top. But for the most part, it remains completely original – including the roll-bar system, which fits the character of the car quite perfectly.
Just a limited number of these Tithonus edition Land Rovers were built, even fewer having found their way stateside. This handsome, low-mileage example would make the perfect weekend warrior. But move quick if you want it - just a day is left on the auction.
