Proof that a predictable design can still be eye candy.

The 2018 E-Class Coupe is part of Mercedes’ matryoshka doll set of coupes by taking lots of design cues from its two brothers, the C and S. That’s not necessarily a bad thing as the two-door E looks elegant and sleek in these official videos flaunting its B-pillar-less side window design. While the front fascia has basically been transplanted from the E-Class Sedan, things get more interesting at the back where the midsize plush coupe has received a new set of taillights to set it apart from the other two coupes. These come with fancy “brilliant stardust” graphics derived by the glow of a jet engine, according to Mercedes-Benz.

Described as being both “hot and cold,” the new E-Class Coupe’s elegant exterior is matched on the inside by a luxurious cabin with the bounty of amenities you get with the sedan, including an optional 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and high-end leather almost everywhere. In case you were wondering, a turbine engine has served as the source of inspiration for the air vent design, which is exclusive to this model.

In regards to the oily bits, the 2018 E-Class Coupe will have virtually the same engines as its sedan counterpart. A warm V6-powered E43 should arrive at some point in 2017, while the flagship E63 / E63 S with its biturbo 4.0-litre V8 is expected to join the party as well. There are also rumours of an E50 with a brand new inline-six 3.0-litre engine set to make its debut next year on the S-Class facelift.
