It must be Thursday, because we have another 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon teaser. This time around, the Dodge boys are focusing on some of the Demon’s data-logging capabilities and driver-adjustable settings. Here’s a little-known fact about drag racers – they love detailed, informative tidbits of information that can help in the all-consuming drive for faster quarter-mile runs. Dodge is doing its part to aid in that slightly more technical pursuit of speed through the Performance Pages feature of the Demon's UConnect system.
This isn’t a new feature – SRT vehicles have had this nugget for some time, allowing drivers to monitor and track a variety of data and adjust settings. For the forthcoming Challenger Demon, the system is tweaked to add some extras. Among them, real-time graphic displays of a wide range of temperatures, pressures, and ratios, not to mention real-time tracking and logging of horsepower and torque.
Want to monitor your current air-fuel ratio under acceleration? Not a problem. And if you’re wondering whether that eBay-sourced air filter really adds 20 horsepower, you can compare the numbers before and after installation. There’s even a setting to monitor the temperature of the coolant used for supercharger’s intercooler, as well as an “After-Run Chiller” that keeps the cooling fan and intercooler pump running after the car is shut off.
Other Demon-specific features include timers for launch reaction times, 0-100 kilometre and 0-60 mile speed runs, eighth-mile and quarter-mile times, and there's also a G-meter to measure both lateral and longitudinal acceleration. On the function side, the Performance Pages will let drivers adjust RPM for launch control and an individual-gear adjustable shift light. And because the Demon’s natural environment is a drag strip, there’s the requisite Line-Lock feature to properly warm up the hides.
These are in addition to a myriad of other settings in the Performance Pages that allow drivers to adjust power, suspension firmness, traction control, and more.
There’s still no word on just how much power the SRT Challenger Demon will make, or how fast it will turn a quarter-mile. That information likely won’t arrive until the end of Dodge’s 14-part video teaser campaign next month at the New York Auto Show.
