The teaser offers a very brief glimpse at the upcoming coupe.
Mercedes-AMG is keeping up the teaser campaign for the GT R ahead of the track-ready coupe's imminent debut on June 24. The latest clips give us the briefest glimpse of the upcoming model, but their major allure is the opportunity to hear its biturbo V8.
When cruising down the road like in the clip above, the engine sounds civilized, but there's enough of a rumble to hint at the power available under the driver's foot. The first video below demonstrates that the powerplant can also snarl loud enough to startle a parrot. In the final teaser, the mill returns to a low growl, which grabs the attention of a lizard.
While Mercedes-AMG hasn't fully revealed the GT R yet, the high-performance division has divulged some of the coupe's key specs. Its biturbo V8 makes a prodigious 577 horsepower and can reach 100 kilometres per hour (62 miles per hour) from a standstill in 3.6 seconds. The extra power over the 503 hp GT S and improved aerodynamics let the hotter model reach a top speed of 318 km/h (197.6 mph).
The exclusive dark shade of green called AMG Green Hell Magno suggests the GT R is adept at tackling the famously difficult Nürburgring Nordschleife. To live up to that promise, Mercedes-AMG says it has never before included so much motorsport-derived technology in a production model.
