Latest promo draws a links between Porsche's racing and road-going technology. And looks very cool.

Early on a cold and damp Tuesday morning in September, Porsche brought London, England to a standstill as the two-time Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid and all-new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid cruised the streets.

They were filming this new promo, which draws a link between the technology that has helped Porsche claim those Le Mans wins and the World Endurance Championship, and allows the Panamera to produce sports car performance while returning extremely low (claimed) fuel consumption - E-Performance, Porsche calls it.

Under the Panamera’s hood sits Porsche’s new, 2.9-litre, twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine, which produces 330 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The engine is teamed with an electric motor that puts out 136 hp and 295 lb-ft, which adds up to total system output of 462 hp and 517 lb-ft.

It’s not light by any means, tipping the scales at 2,170 kilograms (4784 pounds). But even so, the E-Hybrid will launch from 0-100 kilometres per hour (0-62 miles per hour) in a sports car-baiting 4.6 seconds, and run on to 278 km/h (173 mph).

On electric power alone, range is quoted at 50 kilometres (31 miles), which is more than enough for most commutes. Top speed in e-mode is 140 km/h (87 mph).

In the European tests, the Panamera returns fuel economy of just 2.5 litres per 100 kilometres, with carbon dioxide emissions of 56 grams per kilometre. Even allowing for how inaccurate that test is, real-world economy should still be impressive for such a large, heavy, and fast luxury sedan.

The 919 and Panamera started their London jaunt on Park Lane to the north of the city and passed through Hyde Park Corner, Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, and Parliament Square on their way to the London County Hall Hotel, right next to the London Eye ferris wheel on the south bank of the River Thames.
