In case you had any doubts concerning what the first teaser was about, the second one briefly shows the car’s side profile and it clearly matches the silhouette of those heavily camouflaged prototypes. It will take the shape of a liftback, meaning it will be more practical than the once traditional sedan body style.
But what’s really important here is the 0-100 kilometre per hour (0-62 mile per hour) sprint set to take just 5.1 seconds, thus making it the fastest-accelerating Kia ever. We should point out the teaser recorded at the company’s track adjacent to the Namyang R&D center in South Korea mentions the number is a pre-homologation development target, but even so the production-ready car should mirror the performance.
As far as top speed is concerned, the first teaser showed the car doing 244 km/h (151 mph) in Germany at the Nürburgring, although on TheCurveAhead.net website created specifically for the 2018 GT there’s a black and white image with the speedometer dialed to a little over 280 km/h (174 mph).
Previewed by the 2011 GT concept, the production version will allegedly be powered by an assortment of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, topped by a larger biturbo 3.3-litre V6. In Hyundai’s Genesis-branded premium models, the six-cylinder unit pushes out 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, although we won’t be too surprised if the engineers will fiddle with the engine to extract more power.
The rear-wheel drive sports car is going to be unveiled on January 8, 2017 and will celebrate its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit where it will likely be exhibited with a different name. Meanwhile, a third teaser set to arrive later this month will provide a first glimpse at the car’s design.
PS: If you pause at the 0:20 mark, you will see focus is on one of the rear wheels. Might that be a sign the car is getting rear-wheel steering - or are we reading too much into it?
