Toronto, ON - Of the 41 Canadian debuts to be featured at the 2017 Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS) in Toronto, the Maserati Quattroporte Gransport is without a doubt one of the more eye-catching models. That is, after all, the point of the flagship's stylish new trim.
The Quattroporte has been restyled and upgraded for the 2017 model year, and with it comes the GranSport and GranLusso trims. Both are available on the V6- and V8-powered Quattroportes, and add numerous upgrades to set them apart from other models in the range.
The GranSport in particular focuses on sportiness and aggression. It's fitted with 21-inch rims, complemented with red brake calipers and blue Maserati tridents on the wheel centres. At the front of the car, the centre and side air intakes are restyled, which Maserati says makes for improved cooling and a more aggressive look. An optional glossy black finish is available for the grille, while a standard piano black spoiler highlights the rear of the GranSport.
The interior isn't forgotten either. The GranLusso gets redesigned front and rear seats, while the sport steering wheel - available in either carbon fibre or leather - gets aluminum paddle shifters, matched with stainless steel sport pedals.
Engines choices stay the same, though, and include a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 capable of 530 horsepower, and a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that makes 410 horsepower.
Above and beyond what's offered on the GranSport trim, an Exterior Carbon Pack is for the man or woman who is obsessed with carbon fibre. The package includes carbon fibre external mirrors, door handles, B-pillar cover, and front bumper profile.
This is all on top of the other changes for the Quattroporte, including a new infotainment system, a new electronic parking brake, additionally safety features, air quality sensors, an electric air shutter that improves aerodynamics, and more.
There's clearly no shortage of customization available on the latest Quattroporte. The GranSport is more stylish than we'll ever be, but it also has the performance to make its beauty more than skin deep.
