For $1,000 more than the top trim Civic Touring, you can have a Civic Si.

In its tenth-generation, the Civic has seen the most ambitious redesign Honda’s undertaken with their popular compact. The 2017 Civic Si, is the sportiest iteration of it Type R you say? That’s not here… yet. Both sedan and coupe versions of the Si go on sale at Canadian dealerships today.

Pricing for the Si sedan starts at $28,490, while the Si coupe bumps it up to $28,890.

There’s a long list of standard features in both body styles of the Si, starting with one of our favourites, smartphone mirroring through Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The sedan gets both front and rear heated seats, while the coupe sees heated front seats only. Both models also get leather wrapped steering wheels, ambient cabin lighting, automatic dual-zone climate control, along with a whole host of other great tech and convenience features.

Powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre four banger, the Civic Si is capable of 205 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque (18 more torques than the last generation Si). While horsepower remains unchanged, the power comes on far earlier in the rev band, which sounds good in theory. While it’s been a hotly contested point by many, I’ll reserve judgement till I’ve driven the car.

More on the new Civic Si:

Once again the only available transmission on the Civic Si is a six-speed manual. Much respect to Honda for honouring the row-your-own, if you think there ought to be an automatic, leave a comment and make your case.

The 2017 Civic Si is also lighter by eight kilograms over the outgoing car. It’s also sports a wider track, stiffer chassis, and seems to agree very much with Honda’s claim of it being the best-handling Civic Si ever built.

Here are some details for those of you who want to really geek out:

  • Tires are wider on the new Civic Si, 235 vs 225 on the old car
  • Front brake rotors are 0.5-inches bigger at 12.3 inches
  • Stabilizer bars are 30 percent stiffer up front and 60 percent stiffer at the back

For colours, both the sedan and coupe are available in Crystal black pearl, Modern steel metallic, White orchid pearl, Aegean blue metallic, and Rallye red. Just the coupe can also be had in Energy green pearl.
