That's 13.56 seconds quicker than the standard Camaro ZL1.
After recently teasing the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE’s trip to the Nürburgring, the Bowtie now reveals that the track-focused, supercharged sports coupe can lap the Green Hell in 7:16.04, which makes it the quickest Camaro ever around the course. Check out how the car handles the course’s famous curves in the video above.
For comparison, the ZL1 1LE’s time destroys the standard ZL1’s lap of 7 minutes and 29.6 seconds from last year. The hardcore Camaro also bests the C6 Corvette ZR1’s 7 minutes and 26.4 seconds, and the previous-generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS’ 7 minutes and 18 seconds.
According to Chevy, the ZL1 that achieved this impressive lap time had its adjustable dampers in an optimal setup for the course. It was using same high-performance Goodyear tires that consumers get with the package.
“With chassis adjustability unlike any vehicle in its peer group, the Camaro ZL1 1LE challenges supercars from around the world regardless of cost, configuration or propulsion system,” Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer, said in Chevy’s announcement of the lap time. “To make up more than a second per mile on the Nordschleife compared to the ZL1 automatic is a dramatic improvement and speaks to the 1LE’s enhanced track features.”
The 1LE option package adds a variety of upgrades that makes the Camaro ZL1 an even better handling vehicle, including slicing off 27 kilograms. Multimatic’s Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve adjustable front and rear dampers are a big help for corner carving. Ultra-sticky Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R keep the coupe planted to the road. The Bowtie also adds a revised body kit front dive planes at the front and a carbon fibre rear wing. Like the regular ZL1, power comes from GM’s LT4 6.2-litre supercharged V8 with 650 horsepower.
The 1LE option pack adds $7,500 USD onto the standard ZL1’s price. The coupes go on sale this summer for $69,995 in the U.S., including the $995 destination. We're still waiting to hear on Canadian info - stay tuned!
