A long night of wrenching got the Group B legend back in shape.

Fear not, RS200 fans. Yesterday’s crash of the classic Group B rally machine at Goodwood was a bit traumatic, but everyone should know that a few hay bales won’t stop this 1980s racing beast. Pat Doran was behind the wheel during the incident, and the former rallycross driver walked away without a scratch.

Still, it was tough to see RS200 body panels sailing through the air during the off-track excursion. Here’s what Doran had to say on his Facebook page regarding the crash:

“Unfortunately at the top of the hill the brakes locked up with the high speed, and from there I think everyone saw what resulted.... I am ok but with the excessive amount of panel damage we are just working out our opinions and to see if 'Rosie' will be able to go up the hill again this year. Would be very disappointed if we cannot continue.”

Today, we’re happy to say Doran is not disappointed. 

 

 

 

As you can see, the RS200 is back together and Doran will be making another run at Goodwood, hopefully this time without leaving the narrow tarmac course. The car isn't perfect, but it's still glorious to behold.

Ford only built 24 RS200 Evolution models, which in rally form could make upwards of 600 horsepower from its diminutive 2.1-liter turbocharged mill. Along with other insane machines like the Audi Quattro, Lancia Delta S4, and Peugeot 205, the RS200 lived a short Group B racing career before the series was disbanded in 1986.

Obviously the cars live on, and though this RS200 carries a value of around $500,000, we’re so happy to see it blasting up the hill at Goodwood.
