Could have a biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine with 585 hp.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off later this month so it comes as little surprise Mercedes-AMG has released the first teaser images of the upcoming GT R.
Set to slot between the AMG GT S and the AMG GT Black Series, the AMG GT R is a high-performance model which draws inspiration from the AMG GT3 race car.
The teaser images don't reveal much but we can see the model will be equipped with a sportier front bumper and a revised grille that mimics the one on the race car. A closer inspection reveals a ventilated hood, a carbon fibre roof, and what appears to be carbon fibre mirror caps. Previous spy photos have also shown the model will have a centre-mounted exhaust, an aggressive rear diffuser, and a prominent rear wing.
Mercedes is keeping details under wraps but the model is expected to use an upgraded biturbo 4.0-litre V8 engine. The engine produces 503 horsepower in the AMG GT S but Mercedes seems to be giving us a subtle hint that the AMG GT R will have 585 hp as the rumoured number just happens to appear on the car's license plate.
Regardless of the final output, the AMG GT R will be quicker than the standard model and is rumoured to weigh up to 175 pounds less than more mainstream variants.
