The coroner ruled his death an accident.
Anton Yelchin, the 27-year old actor who played Chekov in the latest Star Trek films, died in a car accident on June 19. According to CNN, Yelchin's vehicle rolled backward and pinned him against a brick column.
"The victim was on his way to meet his friends for a rehearsal and when he didn't show up, his friends went to his house where they found him deceased by his car," Jennifer Houser from the Los Angeles Police Department told CNN. "It appears that he momentarily left his car, leaving it in the driveway. He was behind the vehicle when it rolled backward and pinned him to the brick pillar causing the trauma that led to his death."
The coroner ruled the actor's death was an accident from "blunt traumatic asphyxia," The Los Angeles Times reported. The paper also said that Yelchin had a steep driveway. Motor1 will continue to follow this story if there are any new details about the accident.
Yelchin played Chekov in JJ Abrams' 2009 film Star Trek and later in Star Trek into Darkness. He'll appear in the role again in Star Trek Beyond, which will premiere in the United States on July 22.
