They can hit 60 mph in a claimed 3.1 seconds.
Hennessey is celebrating 25 years in business by tuning the Ford Mustang GT to even more extreme levels. The firm limits its new HPE800 package to just 25 units, but the few customers that purchase the tune get to experience Ford’s pony car with 804 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can order the upgrades for the convertible or coupe with either an automatic or manual gearbox.
The HPE800 package continues the evolution from Hennessey’s HPE700 and HPE750 Mustangs. Like the earlier ones, the company starts by adding a 2.9-litre supercharger onto the 5.0-litre V8. To move air through the engine, it also gets a carbon fibre intake and new exhaust. An upgraded fuel pump and injectors keep gas going into the thirsty mill. The work lets the HPE800 ‘Stang sprint to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometres per hour) in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 207.9 mph (335 km/h).
Hennessey doesn’t stop at only upgrading the powertrain for the HPE800. With so much extra power, the cars need to be able to stop better, and the company installs 15-inch Brembo brakes, which can haul them down from triple-digit speeds. The Mustangs also get a lowered suspension. For extra style to match the increased performance, the firm fits a carbon fibre front splitter, side sills, and trunk lip spoiler. In addition, 25th anniversary graphics celebrate the Hennessey's milestone.
