"Fastest luxury sedan on earth" debuts June 28.
The second-generation Panamera is almost here and to create even more buzz, Porsche has released yet another teaser. This time it’s a video from the Nürburgring where the “fastest luxury sedan on earth” is being shown for a brief moment, but without revealing it all. Most likely we’re looking at the Turbo S model which needless to say will be the fastest version of the range.
The outgoing Turbo S is already a beast, with 570 horsepower coming from a 4.8-litre V8 engine that delivers a maximum torque of 553 pound-feet (590 lb-ft with overboost). It runs to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds when equipped with the optional Sport Chrono package and will max out at 192 mph (309 km/h).
Its replacement will obviously be quicker, but it’s unclear at this point what will power it. Latest gossip indicates a biturbo 4.0-litre V8 will be available for the new Panamera lineup, so this could be it. Lesser models are expected to make use of a biturbo 2.9-litre V6 and a biturbo 3.6-litre V6, along with a diesel V8 for Europe. Spy shots have shown that at least one plug-in hybrid version is on the agenda, but it remains to be seen whether it will be available from day one or will arrive later in the car’s life cycle.
As for the design, we’ve been through this several times, so there’s no point in starting all over again. Above we’ve attached our own speculative render which should be close to the real deal. To put it briefly, the 2017 Panamera will adopt an evolutionary appearance, with the most important changes at the back to enable a sleeker look. The interior will host touch-capacitive buttons and will feature a 12-inch touchscreen display sitting above a one-piece central air vent.
The sedan will be joined most likely in the second half of next year by a more practical wagon and there also might be a two-door coupe to act as a 928 successor.
Until then, the regular sedan is set to premiere on Tuesday, June 28 at 8:10 pm CEST and we are going to livestream the event.
