Likely to receive a new paint and some minor body changes
BMW took the wraps off the M2 Coupe-based 2002 Hommage Concept in late May at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este as a way to mark the 50th anniversary of its ‘02 Series. Sources close to the Bavarian marque have told our friends at BMWBLOG a lightly updated version of the concept is heading to California for the Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance on August 21.
Details about the revised concept are not available at this point, but it is believed the modified 2002 Hommage will eschew the original concept’s Space Race Metal paint in favour of a new shade. In addition, some minor revisions to the body are also expected to further set it apart from the first one.
Some of you will remember last year BMW introduced a 3.0 CSL Hommage concept at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and several months later it brought a race-spec ‘R’ version to Pebble Beach. It remains to be seen whether the updated 2002 Hommage will follow the same recipe and feature a track-oriented look.
M2-based concepts are nice and all, but what happened to that rumor regarding an M2 CSL? It would prove to be a nice way to celebrate BMW’s centenary. Perhaps it is too soon for a "coupe sport lightweight" version, but it would be nice to know for sure it’s actually going to happen at some point.
