The Model 3 is reportedly going to be a competitor to the 330e plug-in, so it makes sense for BMW to go on the offensive before the Tesla has even been released.
A cheeky new commercial from BMW doesn't go so far as to blatantly call out the competitor it's referring to, but regardless, the video is about as subtle as the V12 engine under the hood of a M760i.
The commercial, titled "Waiting," shows a man sitting forlornly on his front porch, staring at an empty driveway while he waits for what the voice-over refers to as "that electric car company's new model."
It's clear BMW is taking a jab at Tesla and its upcoming Model 3 sedan. Over 400,000 people have already put down a deposit for the Model 3, but there's a good chance the car won't even be available until 2018!
The man in the video then sees his neighbours across the street wave to him, unplug their shiny new red BMW 330e plug-in sedan, and drive away. The star of the commercial can do nothing more than sheepishly look away as the couple drives past him.
The Tesla Model 3 is reportedly going to be a competitor to the 330e, so it makes sense for BMW to go on the offensive before the Tesla has even been released. The electric BMW starts at about $52,000 in Canada, and although the Model 3's $35,000 USD (approx. $46,000 CAD) MSRP is clearly more competitive, at least you can drive the 330e today if you really wanted to.
At this point, it's BMW 1, Tesla 0.
