Parking near a $400,000 USD car is not the moment for a lapse in concentration
You know that feeling when you do something so stupid and embarrassing that you want the earth to open up and swallow you whole? I dare say that’s how the unfortunate driver of a classic Mercedes SL felt when she backed onto a Ferrari 458 Speciale.
The incident occurred during a Cars & Coffee event at Katie’s cafe in Great Falls, Virginia. It seems the driver was attempting to parallel park her rather lovely Mercedes 380 SL in front of the 458, but misjudged the manoeuvre.
The impact caused the Mercedes to ride up on top of the Ferrari, seeming to stop with the tire against the bumper. The Ferrari’s owner appears soon after and isn’t happy to say the least. “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen,” is his understated assessment.
Fortunately the driver and her passengers were all unharmed, but the same can’t be said of her bank balance. Though the damage to the Ferrari appears to be limited to scuffs and scrapes, it will probably need a new bumper, hood, and headlight. I’d want the front suspension changed as well, just in case. That lot will add up to tens of thousands of dollars. Not to mention any repairs to the SL.
Still, cars can be repaired. But can the driver’s pride be?
