For weeks Sharna Burgess has been showing James Hinchcliffe around the dance floor but now Hinchcliffe takes Burgess for a twirl.
Dancing isn’t easy, and although IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe impressed in his opening performance of Season 23 on Dancing with the Stars recently, we know the credit really lies with his experienced and very talented partner (and coach) Sharna Burgess.
A professional ballroom dancer who’s been on the ABC reality show since Season 13, Burgess is considered one of the best coaches a fella could be partnered up with. And while the duo, also known as #TeamStopAndGo, are fast becoming favourites on screen, it was Hinchcliffe’s turn to show Burgess how he lays it down on the track in Hinchtown.
Ahead of the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma this weekend, Hinchcliffe treated Burgess to a hot lap around the Sonoma Raceway in a two-seater IndyCar Experience demo car. Indy cars are of course single-seaters, but these specially designed two-seater open-wheel race machines are for giving those of us who can’t drive a real IndyCar the sensation of what it’s like to be in one as it goes around a track.
In the capable hands of Hinchcliffe, Burgess saw speeds topping 265 kilometres per hour and 2 - 2.5 Gs around corners.
In response to a question about how he felt taking Burgess around for a spin, Hinchliffe said “I’m hoping she’s as nervous now as I was before the first show last Monday, just to give her a taste of the tables being turned.”
When asked if she was nervous, Burgess replied “No! Terrified, I’m terrified!”
After her lap, she added “My legs felt like jelly and I kind of felt like everything else is moving in slow motion after going that fast.”
“It’s an indescribable feeling.”
The veteran Aussie dancer and lanky Canadian racer (A.K.A. the mayor of Hinchtown) will be dancing again tonight as the pair prepare to wow us with their spicy Latin dance on DWTS.
