If you're in the market for a cheap yet roomy car in Canada, check these out.
Canada has a long-standing love history with subcompact hatchbacks - those little cars that are easy to drive, fuel-efficient, and use what little space they have unbelievably effectively. Due to their utilitarian nature, we tend to favour the cheapest of the bunch. Yes, there are some high-priced hatchbacks on the market today - such as the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class - but the most popular are those that are sold for less than $20,000.
Note that we only take into account the car's MSRP. Depending on any manufacturer rebates, you might actually be able to get certain models for less.
Chevrolet Sonic, $20,095
Starting at a little over $20,000, the Sonic is one of two Chevy vehicles to make this list - and it's even the larger of the two!
Toyota Yaris, $17,464
Toyota's subcompact isn't the most technically-advanced on the market, but it is supremely reliable and pretty cheap.
Kia Rio 5-door, $16,750
The Kia Rio is a little more expensive than its sibling the Hyundai Accent, but it compensates by having more standard equipment.
Ford Fiesta, $15,562
Ford's smallest hatchback is pretty roomy, comes with plenty of goodies, and is pretty fun to drive.
Honda Fit, $15,050
The Fit has been a Canadian favourite for years now. The 2017 model year version is the roomiest and most comfortable example to date.
Nissan Versa Note, $14,498
The Versa Note has enough space to rival more than one compact, at a subcompact price.
Mitsubishi Mirage, $14,167
At one point, the Mirage was the cheapest new car on the market. If you really want one, you can probably find a dealer willing to discount one.
Hyundai Accent, $13,999
The Accent is surprisingly comfortable and quiet for its price tag. This model has come a long way in the last few years.
Chevrolet Spark, $11,845
Number two on this list is the Chevrolet Spark. This small city car needs no introduction, and it remains one of the most cost-efficient hatchbacks on the market today.
Nissan Micra, $9,998
The cheapest hatchback on sale today, the Micra is also the only car on this list to have its own dedicated racing series.
